I had the most glorious, mosquito-free, uninterrupted sleep in Kibungo yet. Not a single mosquito bite! I slept the whole night through! I woke up feeling great. I would be happy to call a truce with the mosquitoes; if they don’t drink my blood, I won’t kill them. Pretty straightforward arrangement.
Today at UNATEK, we got to see our new office for the first time. It’s not much, but being the optimists we are we can see the potential. Like everything else in Rwanda, it may not be great right now, but it could be. We moved from there to ETO, the furniture store, because our tables and accessories we ordered 3 weeks ago still haven’t been delivered. They lie to us constantly telling us tonight, tomorrow, etc. and it never comes. We also need to order another bedroom set for the 4th room in the house since our first guest will be arriving on the 26th. Kara was very straight with them and said, “Do you promise this will be done by the 26th?” and the manager’s shocking answer was “If it’s not you can chop off my head”. I thought that would be a little drastic; we just want the furniture.
Our afternoon and evening were comprised of very familiar events, but I am happy about that fact. I am really enjoying life here in Rwanda, and Lama and Kara and I are becoming quite a tight knit group. We spend every waking minute together, and you’d think that would mean we’d get sick of each other but I am finding I am more and more happy to be around them as time goes on. Just the everyday things we do are wonderful and I’ve never been as constantly stimulated as I am here. I also feel that our time is nothing but productive. And our work doesn’t feel like work. I think it’s funny that 4 months ago I would never have fathomed that I would be living in Rwanda with Lama and Kara and becoming such good friends with them, but now that I am there is really nowhere I’d rather be.
